The Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites applications for a faculty position at the junior professor level (W1) (assistant professor) in
to begin in April 2019.
The candidates’ research interests should include the scientific challenges in the user-centered design and development of Human-Computer Interfaces, their evaluation, and the methods utilized in evaluation.
In particular, the Faculty is seeking strong candidates in usability-aspects of novel devices and user interfaces, empirical methods for Usability Testing and Ergonomics (in particular experimental quantitative studies), and the perceptual and cognitive foundations of Man Machine Communication. The successful candidate will contribute to faculty research and teaching in these areas. She or he will complement and augment the existing research profile of the faculty and strengthen its interdisciplinary research.
The ideal candidate should have a strong international research record in one of the aforementioned subjects, should show excellent potential of developing research autonomously, and should have experience in the acquisition and managing of third-party funding in research.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Psychology or related disciplines with a focus on Usability and Human-Computer Interaction. They must take over lectures on the foundations of Perceptual and Cognitive Psychology and on Empirical (quantitative) methods for the evaluation of Human-Computer Interfaces. Moreover, she or he should be willing to contribute to interdisciplinary cooperation within the faculty and across faculties. There are many opportunities for this at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, since usability is a key issue of both design and technology disciplines.
The position is subject to the requirements set out in § 82 of the University law of Thuringia. A university degree, pedagogical aptitude and an outstanding doctoral degree are required. The duration of the professorship is at first limited to three years, with the possibility of extension for further three years based on a positive performance evaluation.
